Make that Change

For those who knew me in my mid 30's, I was a dedicated runner. Ran in many races, 5K, 8K and even 10Ks. My ultimate goal was to run in a marathon but that never materialized. Known fact, I have a phobia of porta potties and knew I would never make 26 miles without having to use one (or be embarrassed because I refused to use one).

Two days ago Lexi and I were walking and boy does she stop to smell everything! Well, I had none of it and just started running and surprisingly she ran with me! We didn't go too far but a thought entered my head. Why not? Why not try it again. I mean it has been over 20 years but you can't get anywhere if you don't try. So, last night I went to the gym and decided instead of walking on the treadmill, I was going to RUN! So I ran and I ran...for 25 minutes straight! It felt so good, even my lungs kept up with the challenge.

For years I have kept my race results hidden away in a folder. I finally pulled them out last night to see what my average PR was back then. Surprisingly, I seemed to always finish in the top 10 runners, sometimes top 5. That is a pretty great accomplishment! I averaged 8 minute miles back then and last night, first time back in action, I was averaging 11. Not too shabby for 20+ years later. For runners, we always try to beat our personal record (PR). Every race I tried to beat my average speed. As a person who strives for personal goal settings in her daily life, this is my new challenge. It will be interesting, with all that is going on, if I can beat my 11 minute mile pace. Who knows maybe soon I can beat my old PR of 8 minute per mile average and maybe just maybe, I may even race again.
